Abu Dhabi Art, presented by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, will make its return for the 16th edition, taking place from 20 to 24 November at the prestigious Manarat Al Saadiyat. This year’s event promises to be the most dynamic yet, showcasing over 100 local and international galleries and introducing exciting new sectors that focus on the ever-evolving world of contemporary art. With an array of modern artworks and thought-provoking displays, the fair aims to bring new audiences into the world of art while continuing to celebrate creativity at the highest level.

New Visual Campaign and Focus Sectors

This year, Abu Dhabi Art has selected Mohammed Kazem as its Visual Campaign Artist. Kazem, a highly respected figure in the regional art community, is known for his innovative works that often explore themes of identity, space, and time. His inclusion as the campaign artist is a testament to the impact of his contributions to the world of modern art over the past two decades.

In addition to the stunning visual campaign, three new Focus sectors will debut this year:

    • Something Bold, Something New: This sector will shine a spotlight on regional modern artists, offering a platform for new works that reflect the vibrant and diverse artistic expressions of the Middle East.
    • The Collector’s Salon: A unique addition to the fair, this sector will present historical artefacts, rare objects, and artworks that have never been seen before, allowing collectors to discover fresh and exciting pieces for the first time.
    • Silk Road: Drifting Identities: With this new sector, galleries and artists from Central Asia and the Caucasus will take centre stage, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural and artistic heritage of these regions.

Supporting Emerging Talent: Emerge and Bidaya Sectors

Abu Dhabi Art remains committed to fostering emerging talent. The Emerge gallery sector will feature works priced under USD 3,000, providing a platform for new collectors to engage with affordable yet captivating art. Meanwhile, the Bidaya sector is designed to offer emerging galleries their debut opportunity at Abu Dhabi Art, with an emphasis on fresh perspectives and innovative presentations that will energise the fair’s atmosphere.

Showcasing Local Talent: Beyond Emerging Artists Programme

The Beyond Emerging Artists programme is another major highlight, curated by Lorenzo Fiaschi of GALLERIA CONTINUA. This initiative will showcase new commissions from three UAE-based artists: Fatma Al Ali, Dina Nazmi Khorchid, and Simrin Mehra Agarwal. Their works, which range from experimental media to more traditional forms, reflect the growing influence of the UAE’s art scene and underscore Abu Dhabi Art’s ongoing commitment to local creative talent.

Gateway Exhibition: Bridging Arab and Latin American Cultures

One of the most exciting elements of Abu Dhabi Art 2024 will be the Gateway exhibition, curated by Odessa Warren and Carine Harmand. This exhibition will explore the cultural ties between the Arab world and Latin America, presenting the work of artists such as Emilia Estrada, Alia Farid, and Francisca Khamis Giacoman. In addition to works by established artists, the exhibition will feature a new commission by British-Lebanese artist Mandy El-Sayegh, further expanding the boundaries of cross-cultural exchange.

Engaging with the Community: House of Artisans and Art + Tech

Abu Dhabi Art 2024 will strengthen its connection with the local community through initiatives like the House of Artisans, which will showcase the “Community Partners” exhibition, centred around the theme “Crafts as a Language. This exhibition will explore the intersection of craftsmanship and artistic expression, showcasing the skills of local artisans.

The Art + Tech programme, led by Afra Al Suwaidi and Marina Fedorova, will highlight the innovative ways in which technology is being integrated into the creative process. Student projects will be on display, demonstrating how digital tools and new media are shaping the future of art.

    Talks Programme: Promoting Critical Dialogue

The Talks Programme, sponsored by the Farjam Foundation, will offer critical discussions on contemporary art themes. These conversations, which will involve prominent scholars, curators, and artists, will provide attendees with deeper insights into the art world and its evolving practices.

A Celebration of Art and Culture

Abu Dhabi Art 2024 promises to be an inspiring event for art lovers, collectors, and creatives from around the world. With its expanded programming, dedication to emerging artists, and focus on cultural exchange, this year’s edition is set to offer a unique and enriching experience that reflects the diverse and dynamic landscape of contemporary art.
