Novelis and TSR’s Strategic Partnership for a Greener Future

Novelis, the world’s largest recycler of aluminum and a leading supplier of flat-rolled, low-carbon aluminum products, has entered into a strategic three-year agreement with TSR Recycling GmbH & Co. KG. This partnership deepens the longstanding relationship between the two companies, ensuring a reliable supply of approximately 75,000 tonnes of presorted and processed end-of-life aluminum materials. These materials will be integrated into Novelis’ production of low-carbon aluminum sheets used in the automotive sector, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Addressing Market Demand for Recycled Aluminum

The increasing market demand for aluminum with high recycled content presents both challenges and opportunities for the industry. As a leader in sustainable aluminum production, Novelis recognizes the critical importance of end-of-life material availability. Through this partnership, Novelis continues its work with automotive clients to develop cutting-edge solutions that absorb both pre- and post-consumer scrap into new, high-recycled-content automotive aluminum alloys. This move will significantly reduce the automotive industry’s environmental impact by lowering the carbon footprint of aluminum used in manufacturing vehicles.

    Advancing the Circular Economy

Novelis and TSR are both key players in distinct areas of the aluminum recycling process. This collaboration accelerates the transition towards a circular economy, advancing the decarbonization efforts of the aluminum industry not only in Europe but also worldwide. The partnership fosters a more sustainable approach to raw material sourcing by focusing on recycling and reusing materials to reduce waste. It sets a new standard for the aluminum industry, pushing the envelope on circularity and resource efficiency.

    Statements from Key Executives

“We are delighted to publicly showcase our strong collaboration with TSR and drive the circularity of the industry through this long-term commitment,” said Emilio Braghi, Executive Vice President of Novelis Inc., and President of Novelis Europe. “This partnership ensures a steady supply of high-quality processed raw materials, which is critical to meeting our customers’ sustainability targets. Additionally, it supports our journey to reach 75% recycled content in our products by 2030. This is a significant milestone as we continue to innovate for a sustainable future.”

Denis Reuter, Chief Operating Officer of TSR Group, expressed enthusiasm about the deeper collaboration, stating, “At TSR, we are thrilled to extend our partnership with Novelis, united by our shared mission to maximize circularity, reduce carbon emissions, conserve natural resources, and lower energy consumption in the material industries. By ensuring the reuse and repurposing of valuable resources, we contribute to both our business growth and the planet’s well-being. Together, we are leading the transition toward a circular economy, especially for the automotive sector and beyond. Our innovative Europe-wide processing lines are proud to play a role in this initiative.”

    Novelis and TSR’s Recycling Leadership

Novelis, a global leader in aluminum recycling, processed around 700,000 tonnes of aluminum scrap in Europe last year, producing low-carbon, circular aluminum solutions for the market. The company plans to increase this volume by an additional 50,000 tonnes in the upcoming fiscal year. TSR, a European leader in iron and non-ferrous metal recycling, processes approximately 7.2 million tonnes of end-of-life metals annually. TSR produces high-quality recycled raw materials that can be reused in manufacturing, further supporting the circular economy and the push for sustainability across industries.

    Future Outlook

The collaboration between Novelis and TSR is set to continue driving the growth of a circular economy, particularly in the automotive sector, and contribute significantly to global sustainability goals. This partnership sets the stage for further expansion of recycled aluminum usage, benefiting both companies and the planet. As the demand for sustainable solutions in the aluminum industry continues to grow, Novelis and TSR will remain at the forefront of this important shift towards a more circular and eco-friendly future.
