Dr. Xand van Tulleken endorses the book, describing it as “a wonderful, beautifully illustrated book and a great way of getting children on board with reducing food waste and saving money.” The Magic Pause Button serves as the perfect introduction to sustainability for young audiences.

    Synopsis

The story follows Grace, a young girl eager to contribute to the planet’s wellbeing but unsure where to start. Her journey begins when she discovers her own “magic pause button”—a unique tool designed to halt food waste in its tracks! With this newfound knowledge, Grace inspires her family and friends to join her mission to save food, time, and money. Through this heartwarming narrative, children learn practical tips and tricks for freezing food and preventing waste in engaging and fun ways.

    • A bonus recipe for healthy, homemade banana ice cream that kids will adore!

Banana Ice Cream Recipe (As Featured in the Book!)

Making healthy treats has never been simpler! Try this no-added-sugar recipe for creamy banana ice cream:

    1. Take ripe bananas and slice them.
    2. Freeze the banana slices overnight on a lined baking tray to prevent sticking.
    3. Blend the frozen banana pieces in a food processor, scraping down the sides as needed, until smooth and creamy.
    4. Enjoy your one-ingredient banana ice cream! For extra fun, add toppings like sprinkles or mix in nut butter, chocolate spread, or frozen berries!

    Perfect for Parents Seeking:

    • Eco-friendly and sustainability-themed books for children.
    • Simple, kid-friendly recipes such as banana ice cream.
    • Positive and uplifting stories about climate change action for kids.
    • Practical tips for greener living.

The Magic Pause Button delivers an inspiring and hopeful message for young readers, demonstrating that even small actions can significantly impact protecting the planet. Pre-order your copy today or gift it for Christmas, and join Grace in exploring the magic of freezing food, reducing waste, and helping the environment!

Author Kate Hall of The Full Freezer reveals her inspiration: “I first wrote the story of The Magic Pause Button alongside my daughter in 2021. I wanted to create something that would help her explain to her friends what I do for a living and share handy tips with them. However, as I was building my business during the pandemic, the draft sat unread on my laptop.

In 2023, I came across an illustrator I admired on Instagram (@alexiapinchbeck), but it wasn’t until May 2024 that I found the courage to reach out for a collaboration.

Over the past three years of growing The Full Freezer, countless adults have expressed their wish that they had learned what I teach in school. While this book continues to help my daughter and share tips, it has taken on a deeper purpose.

Although I can’t change the curriculum or prioritise food waste in schools, I aim to reach as many young people as possible with this story, so they grow up with the knowledge that their parents missed. My hope is that this book will help future generations (and their parents!) understand the importance of reducing food waste for both the planet and their wallets and how our home freezers can facilitate this with ease.”
