Campaign Highlights Importance of Daily Pelvic Floor Exercises

In an empowering initiative, Always Discreet has partnered with renowned TV Judge and International Dance Champion, Shirley Ballas, to encourage women across the UK to make bladder leak prevention and management a part of their daily routine. This comes in response to new research revealing that a staggering 94% of women do not perform pelvic floor exercises as regularly as they should, despite the fact that one in three women will experience bladder leaks at some point in their lives.

    Research Findings and Awareness Gap

Recent UK research from Always Discreet highlights a concerning trend: over half (55%) of women surveyed between the ages of 30-65 feel unprepared for bladder leaks when they occur. The stigma surrounding this topic has resulted in many women feeling embarrassed (63%) and anxious (62%) about discussing it openly. Furthermore, almost half (49%) report discomfort in talking about bladder leaks with friends and family.

The research indicates that while 72% of women are proactive about their overall health and wellbeing, many lack knowledge about pelvic floor health. Alarmingly, 60% of women aged 30-50 are uncertain about the causes of bladder leaks, demonstrating the critical need for education and open conversations on this topic.

Launch of the “Squeeze the Day” Campaign

As part of their campaign, Always Discreet has unveiled a new song titled “Squeeze the Day,” designed to educate women on the importance of pelvic floor exercises. The initiative aims to normalise conversations around bladder leaks and empower women to take control of their pelvic health.

To celebrate the song’s launch, Shirley Ballas and Women’s Health GP Dr. Philippa Kaye organised a flashmob in London, captivating early morning commuters by the River Thames with a dance routine inspired by pelvic floor exercises. This lively performance serves as a reminder for women to incorporate pelvic floor exercises into their daily lives.

    Celebrity Endorsements and Expert Advice

Shirley Ballas expressed her enthusiasm for the campaign, saying, “I’ve experienced bladder leaks at various points throughout my life, including after giving birth and during menopause. It surprised me to learn that many women aren’t doing pelvic floor exercises as often as they should. I’m honoured to work with Always Discreet to help break down taboos and empower women to take control of their pelvic floor health. The song is catchy and serves as a brilliant reminder to support each other in ‘Squeezing the Day, Every Day’.”

Dr. Philippa Kaye added, “Pelvic floor health is crucial for women of all ages, particularly during significant life stages like post-partum and menopause. Daily pelvic floor exercises can significantly reduce bladder leaks. I am delighted to join Always Discreet in this mission to encourage women to make pelvic floor exercises a daily habit.”

    A Call to Action

Farah Azmy, Brand Director of Always Discreet UK, stated, “We’re proud to support the one in three women who experience bladder leaks by raising awareness about prevention. Our catchy song is designed to remind women everywhere to make pelvic floor exercises a daily habit. It’s simple—once you know how, you can do it anywhere!”

As Bladder Health Awareness Month approaches in November, Always Discreet is committed to reducing stigma and encouraging women to prioritise their pelvic health. For more information and to watch the flashmob performance, visit [YouTube link].
