Lucara Diamond Corp. Lucara Diamond Corp. is excited to reveal the discovery of an exceptional 2,492-carat diamond from its Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana. This remarkable find ranks among the largest rough diamonds ever discovered and was uncovered through the Company’s advanced Mega Diamond Recovery (“MDR”) X-ray Transmission (“XRT”) technology. This advanced technology, implemented in 2017, is designed specifically to detect and preserve large, high-value diamonds during the recovery process.

The diamond was recovered from the processing of EM/PK(S) kimberlite, which is the dominant ore type at Karowe. Lucara plans to continue targeting this ore type during the initial phases of its underground mining operations, capitalising on its proven potential for producing significant diamond finds.

A Historic Milestone in Diamond Mining

This latest discovery not only underscores Karowe’s reputation as a world-class diamond asset but also reaffirms Lucara’s standing as a leading producer of exceptionally large diamonds. The recovery of this 2,492-carat diamond joins an impressive lineup of previous notable finds from the mine, including the 1,758-carat Sewelô and the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona. These finds highlight Karowe’s exceptional diamond potential and solidify its position as a major player in the global diamond industry.

William Lamb, President and CEO of Lucara, shared his enthusiasm for this landmark find: “We are thrilled by the recovery of this remarkable 2,492-carat diamond. This remarkable find not only showcases the immense potential of our Karowe Mine but also reinforces our strategic investment in cutting-edge XRT technology. The successful recovery of such a massive, high-quality stone in its intact form demonstrates the effectiveness of our advanced recovery approach and our commitment to maximising value for our shareholders and stakeholders.”

Lamb further commented, “This discovery underscores Karowe’s status as a truly world-class diamond mine and highlights the ongoing success of our operational and underground development strategy. It is a testament to our team’s dedication and the effectiveness of our advanced recovery methods.”

    Impact on Botswana’s Diamond Industry

Botswana’s diamond industry is a crucial driver of the nation’s socio-economic development. Beyond its significant contributions to the mining sector, the industry supports national development by funding critical areas such as education and healthcare. The recovery of this extraordinary diamond is a testament to Botswana’s continued ascent as a global leader in diamond production.

The discovery of such a valuable gem not only reflects the exceptional wealth contained within Botswana’s soil but also demonstrates the remarkable progress the country has made in developing its diamond industry. This advancement benefits the nation’s citizens and further strengthens Botswana’s position as a key player in the global diamond market.

Lucara Diamond Corp. remains committed to advancing its operations and leveraging its technological innovations to uncover further significant diamond discoveries. The Company looks forward to continuing its successful trajectory and contributing to the ongoing growth of Botswana’s diamond industry.
