Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit is running an A69 Haltwhistle collision witness appeal after a woman in her 60s was struck by a car on the bypass road and left with life-threatening injuries. She remains in hospital in a critical condition.
The incident happened shortly after 10am on Friday, 11 September. Police received a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the A69 in Haltwhistle, Northumberland. A white Vauxhall Mokka had struck the woman while she was on the carriageway of Haltwhistle Bypass Road. The reasons for her being on the carriageway have not yet been established.
Emergency response to the A69 Haltwhistle collision
Emergency services attended the scene quickly. According to Chronicle Live, two double-crewed ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The woman was taken to hospital, where she was initially described as critical but stable.
Five days on from the collision, she remained in a critical condition in hospital, according to The Northern Echo. That sustained critical status underlines the seriousness of what happened on that stretch of the A69.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a woman in her 50s, remained at the scene after the collision and is assisting officers with their enquiries. A section of the road was closed for a period before being reopened.
What officers need from witnesses
The Roads Policing Unit has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officers are especially keen to hear from anyone who saw the woman before the collision took place, as well as anyone who has relevant footage. That includes CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage either of the collision itself or of the moments leading up to it.
The A69 Haltwhistle collision witness appeal is open to anyone who was in the area at that time. If you were driving that route shortly after 10am on 11 September and your dash cam was running, that footage could be material to the investigation.

Any information, however small it may seem, could help officers piece together the full picture of what happened on that road. Do not assume someone else has already come forward with the same detail.
