The Practical Magic 2 cast brings back most of the original 1998 line-up alongside a handful of new faces, and given that the sequel released nationwide on 5 September 2026, now is the time to get across who is playing who. Most returning actors reprise their original roles. The recast characters are relatively minor, replaced by names you will recognise. And yes, the significant additions are all men, because, as the story goes, most of the men in the first film did not make it out alive.
The Owens Sisters and Their Daughters
Nicole Kidman returns as Gillian Owens, Sally’s sister and a cursed witch living in Massachusetts. Kidman won an Academy Award playing Virginia Woolf in The Hours and picked up an Emmy for the HBO series Big Little Lies. Her other credits across the report include Moulin Rouge, Eyes Wide Shut, Bombshell, Being the Ricardos, and Babygirl.
Sandra Bullock is back as Sally Owens, Gillian’s sister and fellow cursed witch. Bullock won an Academy Award for The Blind Side and has a filmography that stretches from Speed and Miss Congeniality through to Gravity, The Lost City, and Ocean’s 8. Two Oscar winners anchoring the same sequel is not something you see every day.
Sally’s daughters have been recast from the original. Maisie Williams plays Antonia Owens, the younger daughter, a role that went to Alexandra Artrip in 1998. Williams is best known for playing Arya Stark across the run of Game of Thrones, with other credits including Doctor Who, Pistol, and The New Look.
Joey King plays Kylie Owens, the older daughter, originally played by Evan Rachel Wood. King’s credits include the Kissing Booth films, the true crime series The Act (where she played Gypsy-Rose Blanchard) a recurring role on the first season of Fargo, and the film Bullet Train.
The Aunts, and the Practical Magic 2 Cast’s New Arrivals
Stockard Channing returns as Aunt Frances. Channing is a Tony winner, holds three Emmy Awards for The West Wing, The Matthew Shepherd Story, and Jack, and received an Academy Award nomination in 1993 for Six Degrees of Separation.
Dianne Wiest is back as Aunt Jet. Wiest is a two-time Academy Award winner for Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway, with Emmy-winning television work on In Treatment and Road to Avonlea, plus a lengthy run across the Law and Order franchise.
The new male characters are where the Practical Magic 2 cast expands most noticeably. Lee Pace plays Ian Wright, a magic scholar who may hold the key to breaking the Owens curse. Pace broke through with the ABC series Pushing Daisies in 2007 and has since appeared in the MCU, The Hobbit, Foundation, Halt and Catch Fire, and The Running Man.
Xolo Maridueña plays Gideon, Kylie’s boyfriend. Maridueña is best known for playing Blue Beetle in the DC film of the same name and is set to reprise that role in Man of Tomorrow. He was also a series regular on Parenthood and Cobra Kai, and will appear in the new season of One Piece as Ace.
Solly McLeod plays Thomas Lockland, a warlock. Before this film, McLeod appeared in two episodes of House of the Dragon season one as Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, one episode of Outlander, and starred in UK productions including Tom Jones, Fear, and Star City.
