Sharon has been attending Active Newcastle sessions since January 2015. She began her Active Newcastle journey attending the Beginners’ Running for Ladies at Gosforth Central Park. Sharon managed to run up to 7k, but then unfortunately broke her ankle (stress fracture) Nevertheless, she kept in touch with Active Newcastle and heard about the other activities on offer which included the women’s golf sessions. Sharon loves the informal nature of the Golf sessions and says “We meet beforehand and have a chat over tea and cake before having an hour or so coaching, either on driving range or out on the golf course. We’re exercising out in fresh air but it doesn’t feel like exercising!” Quite often people hesitate to join in with something new on their own and if they can’t find someone to go with them, they don’t bother going at all.
I just enjoy having a laugh & a chat and it’s always a bonus when I consider how I’ve improved
Janette started attending Active Newcastle sessions roughly a year ago when she moved to Newcastle from Teesside. Taking part in Active Newcastle sessions was an ideal way for Jeanette to meet new people. She has joined the Active Newcastle women’s golf sessions and regularly attends the golf away days that we organise for participants Janette says “I enjoy keeping active – swimming & walking the dog, but with Active Newcastle I’m meeting and making friends and it’s also giving me confidence; something to talk to people about” She said: “I never for a minute thought I’d ever take up golf but I’m really enjoying it; keeping fit and meeting new people & it’s giving me the drive to try other activities too.” Janette has enjoyed the social aspect of the golf sessions as well as her personal development and achievement, she believes Active Newcastle has boosted her confidence also and says “I wouldn’t normally join anything on my own but I think I could do now” https://youtu.be/tfdWO9ujEGE
