Buggy Walks

The Active Newcastle Buggy Walks launched in February and have proved a great success. The idea is simple and a great way for new mums, dads, grandparents and carers to get out in the fresh air, socialise and get some extra steps in. We start at the Oats and Eggs Pantry, Heaton every Friday at 11am,  walking approximately 2 miles along planned and assessed routes taking in the surroundings FOR NEW PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS & CARERS Gemma has taken part in the buggy walks from day one she says it is "a great way to get out and meet new people, it is great for the little one and me to be out in the fresh air" The setting of The Oats and Eggs Pantry for the start and finish is a great addition and allows participants and their children a safe environment to catch up after the walks.   Gemma has come to the sessions weekly since the start and has now started to lead the walks and plan routes too..... she has got fully behind the buggy walks and constantly talks to the mums and motivates them to keep coming.  She says there are a lot of benefits to organised and free sessions for new mums especially if you are looking to get back into activity or want to try something new For more information contact: ACTIVENEWCASTLE@NEWCASTLE.GOV.UK

This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. Active Newcastle want to help women overcome the fear of judgement that is stopping too many women and girls from joining in and leading active lives. 2019 sees the third year of the This Girl Can International Women’s Day event. We want to show how equality for women can transpose to being active in any way you choose. Show your support and join us for the celebration of women being Active in Newcastle. Come and meet local women and girls who have started feeling that "they can" and help us celebrate local women getting active. The event is taking place on March 7th 2019 with the theme nationally being #BalanceforBetter. In Newcastle, we will be bringing back the popular UV theme for our 2019 5k walk, jog or run with a new addition of a 1-mile option.
