Sport Central is home to the hopes and aspirations of thousands of Northumbria University students, staff and the local community. Our new sports center is a stunning £30m state of the art complex, situated in the heart of Newcastle city centre.
Team Northumbria have a whole host of sports clubs, from American Football to Water Polo, that are open to the public. You do not need any experience to join a sports club, you can join at any level and you will be fully involved with the club, attending training sessions and competitions. Sport Central also offer three ‘Learn to’ courses in Climb, Golf and Swim:
- The Learn To Climb course teaches the basic skills of climbing and some of the fundamental techniques. For more info click here.
- The Learn to Swim courses are taught in small groups (maximum of six) in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. One to one swimming sessions are also available. For more information click here.
- The Learn to Golf course welcomes all abilities with tuition from fully qualified coaches. For more information click here.
The Give it a Go programme is open to Northumbria staff, students and the public. There is no need to book a session (excluding open football). Simply, turn up and have fun! Click here for more information and session programme.
Team Northumbria offers both students and the public an opportunity to gain qualifications in a wide range of sport related courses. Working in partnership with a large number of National Governing Bodies, you can get involved in an extensive range of sports qualifications at Sport Central and Coach Lane. As well as the traditional qualifications such as Football and Rugby, Team Northumbria offers courses in Urban Street Dance, Ultimate Frisbee, Dodgeball, Mini-fencing, Tri-Golf, and many more. Team Northumbria strives to be at the very heart of the North East Netball community and aims to inspire and support young players whether they may be a future Superleague player or play netball just for fun. You can not only play top class sport at Sport Central but watch it too! The Newcastle Eagles basketball team play all home games at Sport Central (more information can be found here) as well as the Team Northumbria Netball Superleague (click here for more info).
