Newcastle Wrestling Club
Benfield Centre for Sport
The Newcastle Wrestling Club is part of the Sports For Youth Academy (www.sportsforyouth.co.uk), a community organisation dedicated to creating sporting, educational and training opportunities for local people.
Our wrestling club, the first in Newcastle to be affiliated with the national governing body (the British Wrestling Association), is inclusive of all cultures and both genders. We also welcome people of all levels and have free taster sessions for anybody that wants to come along and give wrestling a try.
The kind of wrestling we train in is called freestyle and Greco-Roman Olympic wrestling which is very different to the type you'll sometimes see on certain American TV shows – for instance we don't hit anybody over the back with a chair!! At our wrestling club you'll learn discipline, you’ll build strength and develop agility, but most of all you'll have fun. Who knows, ultimately, you may even get to compete in the next Olympics!!
Aim - 'Develop Self Defence, Self Esteem, Self Confidence, and Self Discipline.'
We're a friendly group – come along and give wrestling a go.
Training takes place on Tuesdays (8pm - 9.45pm) and Thursdays (7.45pm - 9.45pm) at the Benfield Centre for Sport.
