Newcastle Roller Girls
Walker Activity Dome
Roller Derby is an all female sport for over 18's (although there are male refs, coaches, and support staff).
The Newcastle Roller Girls are the only team in Newcastle doing this sport – our nearest neighbours are Middlesbrough, and we meet with them once a month to have a mixed practice. We also take part in 'bouts' - for example travelling to Edinburgh to play against the Auld Reekie Roller Girls.
Roller Derby is really a grass roots sport, but we're building a fan base, and hope it will eventually be a sport that's taken seriously and will give girls the chance to skate professionally.
The Newcastle Roller Girls welcome girls who've never skated before, so there's no skill level for entry, we'll loan you skates, padding, and show you how to play. After that, it's up to the skater to see how far they'll push themselves.
The Newcastle Roller Girls practice sessions are:
Beginner: Thursday evening 20.00 - 22.00 @ All Saints College, West Denton.
Our Newbie Sessions are no longer turn up and skate and instead operate on a four-month intake (check our site for more info).
Intermediate (passed minimum skills, yet to bout): Sunday 2.30pm-4.30pm. First 30mins is off skates/tactics in a side room @ Lightfoot Centre, Walker.
Advanced (NRG bouting skaters): Wednesday evening 7.30pm – 9.30pm @ Lightfoot Centre, Walker.
