Roller derby is an all female sport (for over 18′s) that was big in the 1970′s, and revived in 2000 by skaters in America – who dusted off the old rules, and brought the sport bang up to date for a modern audience, and modern skater.
Based on formation skating, there’s no ball or stick involved in roller derby, just agility, speed and teamwork.
Each team is made up of fourteen girls, with five on the track at any one time, all heading in the same anti-clockwise direction around the track.
Their aim is to help their point scorer (the Jammer) get through the pack, and to stop the opposing team’s Jammer getting through.
The winner is the team at the end with the most points – simple, but not easy to do!
This sport is for women who’ve struggled to find their niche, it’s hard work, fast paced, and a brilliant adrenaline rush.
With roller derby you really can let your wild side out and rediscover the guilt free pleasure of having the wind blow through your hair as you skate around with your friends!
