Outdoor Cycling is a good endurance exercise – that means the heart, lungs and muscles are working at a reasonable level for a sustained period of time. This is the type of exercise that most effectively burns calories and helps you get fitter.
The shorter or steeper stuff through hills, mountain bike or BMX puts slightly different demands on your body and tends to build strength, help to make the heart more efficient and improve lung function. But remember having a stronger and more efficient engine is also great for using calories, improving fitness and controlling weight.
