Karate is a Japanese martial art and self-defence skill that responds to the attack of your opponent with evasive body movements, a combination of blocking movements and counter attacks using kicks, punches and strikes. Other manoeuvres are used such as joint locks, takedowns (taking your opponent to the floor) and restraints, but to a lesser degree.
Regular Karate training is a great way to keep fit and healthy. As with most martial arts it helps to develop an excellent sense of balance and co-ordination aerobic fitness, strength, stamina and flexibility. In addition to the physical side Karate has benefits for the mind aiding in focus, concentration, alertness and agility.
Attending a class in Karate is a great way to learn and enjoy this activity in a safe and friendly environment. All levels of ability are catered for allowing you to develop your skill at your own pace.
