The gym is a collective term for a whole range of exercise equipment and depending on where you choose to train you will have access to some or all of the different types of equipment mentioned here. A typical gym will include various cardiovascular training machines like, rowing machines, treadmills, step machines and exercise bikes.
You can also expect to see a range of resistance weight machines and free weights to enable you to get a full body workout.
If you are unfamiliar with any of the equipment there will always be a trained instructor available to answer any questions about how to use the machines and advise on good technique.
Joining a gym can be a daunting experience as the preconception is that it will be full of people with perfect bodies. In fact gyms are used by people of all shapes and sizes and for all kinds of reasons. It is quite common for people to train with friends, to help motivate and encourage each other.
