What Can I Do?

Find out what activities you can take part in and get Active in Newcastle.

Football

Kicking a ball about either with friends or against a wall will get your heart and lungs going as well as build strength in leg muscles.

We all know that playing football can involve a couple of jumpers as goalposts with your pals, five a side kickabouts or right up to organised teams who train and play regularly.

Kicking a ball around is good for balance and co-ordination. It can also help burn calories!

Football is still one of the most popular activities in the UK. As we get older our muscles generally get a bit weaker and our joints a bit stiffer. Returning to an activity you did when younger – even if it is just a kick around with the kids will help keep some of that strength in your legs and trunk (core stability). This will help co-ordination and balance, as we get older.

According to the Football Association (2009/10) there are over 125,000 affiliated football teams in England, of which 471 are located in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Of the 471 teams operating in Newcastle upon Tyne, 202 are adult teams, 164 are youth teams, 84 are Mini-Soccer teams, and 21 are small sided.
