There wasn’t a red card or a bad tackle in sight during Active 500’s ‘Football Week’.

The campaign that gives people the chance to try each of the different Olympic and Paralympic sports focused on the ‘Beautiful Game’ and the result was deinitely an ‘Away Win’!

At the Newburn Activity Centre, young people got active as they shot, crossed and slide-tackled in a round-robin tournament. Females of all ages, inspired by the recent Women’s World Cup, laced up their boots and showed off their skills in a host of popular women-only matches.  While, the Speed Cage got hammered as youngsters competed to see who had the fastest shot in sessions delivered by Newcastle United Foundation coaches.

“The week was just a great success,” said Neil Winskill, Football Development Officer with the Foundation.  “Everyone knows Newcastle is a real football city and the enthusiasm, and talent, on display proved that.”
